The Gospel Four Quartet
The Gospel Four Quartet was organized in the Fall of 1949 while students at the Minnesota Bible College, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The members were: Ed Jones, 1st tenor, fromSan Bernardino, California. Ken Monson, 2nd tenor, was from Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Jim Barton, baritone, was from Wilkinson, Indiana. Bob Van Meetren, bass, was also, from San Bernardino, California.
During their college years the quartet often traveled, on weekends, in behalf of M.B.C. promoting the college and recruiting prospective students.
The quartet conducted over 200 Gospel Meetings and concerts from 1949 to 1999. From 1957 to 1999, the quartet got together four to six weeks every year for revival meetings and concerts. Their final concert was held at the First Christian Church, 4800 Franklin Road, Nashville, Tennessee.
At this writing, 2011, Ed lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ken lives in Arroyo Grande, California. Jim lives in Nashville, Tennessee. Bob got his wings, to fly-away, to sing in heaven’s choir, September 11, 2001.
Arlene Monson, wife of Ken, was pianist for the quartet most of their fifty years together. Other pianists included Bill Miller, Dick Henthorne, Al Titus, and Peggy Lippert.
